Fun under the sun
Instead of spending the day around your hotel, give a thought to taking in one or more of the interesting excursions available in Nassau and Paradise Island.
It's easy, and it's fun. A good way to start is to visit the tour desk in your hotel. Pick up a copy of the What-to-do magazine and the Bahamas Trailblazer Maps to find out what's available and to help you get around. Both are available free.
Sail the seas
A lovely way to enjoy the crystal clear Bahamian water is to set sail aboard the Flying Cloud, a 57-ft catamaran that leaves several times a day from the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal.
Every morning except Sunday you can count on Captain Craig and his crew to take you on a memorable 3-1/2-hour snorkelling expedition to Rose Island.
Sunday is a special day, reserved for a five-hour cruise that includes not only snorkelling but lunch, drinks and relaxation on a private beach.
Three nights a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) there's a 2-1/2-hour cruise around Nassau Harbour under the stars.
Up close and personal
Snorkelling is fun and quite easy, even if you have never tried it before. Snorkelling takes you into a world where you can glimpse the incredible and colourful marine life that abounds on shallow reefs.
Even if you don't scuba dive, you can still see what divers see from one of Stuart Cove's one-man submersibles called a Scenic Underwater Bubble.
If you can scuba, or are willing to learn while you are here, imagine this: you are 50 ft down in a blue heaven, face to face with a Caribbean reef shark. It's a safe but unforgettable experience.

Dolphin Encounters offers two thrilling encounters with nature's smartest mammals. A three-hour excursion to Blue Lagoon Island includes an interactive experience with bottlenose dolphins, either from a shallow platform or actually swimming with them. In the swimming encounter, the dolphins will give you a thrilling "foot push," propelling you through the water by pushing on your feet.
On-land excursions
A limited budget is no excuse not to have a good time. For example, it doesn't cost a penny to explore historic downtown Nassau with its quaint alcoves, narrow side streets and lively bars and cafes. There's the famous Nassau straw market, now in temporary quarters at the west end of the downtown strip on Bay St. Find the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas on your map. It's just a short walk from downtown Nassau and well worth the effort. Other places to look up include the Pirates of Nassau museum, downtown and Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Centre, Nassau's charming and well-tended zoo off Chippingham Rd. On nearby Arawak Cay, stop for a conch salad or a delicious fried snapper lunch.
