Fun things to do

Many ways to enjoy your visit

Just as there’s an endless variety of dining options in Nassau, Paradise Island and Cable Beach, there’s a smorgasbord of activities on tap.

If you’re looking for a relaxing day of sun, sea and sand, you can splash on the sunblock and laze around on one of the island’s gorgeous beaches or loll around your hotel’s pool.

But if you’d like a little more action, there are plenty of opportunities for that too. There are, for example, several half- and full-day excursions available.

A prime example is Flying Cloud, a sailing catamaran that offers half-day and full-day excursions to nearby Rose Island just northeast of New Providence. Here, you can snorkel in crystal-clear waters or relax on a tranquil beach.

If you’re a little more daring, book a tour with Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas, located on the southwest coast. This is the largest dive company in The Bahamas, and it offers a variety of undersea adventures, ranging from snorkelling tours, reef and wreck diving to shark dives–guaranteed to get your adrenaline pumping.

On the hill overlooking Arawak Cay, is Fort Charlotte, an impressive 18th-century edifice that guards the western entrance to Nassau Harbour. Explore its collection of cannon and keep an eye out for graffiti scratched into the ramparts long ago by bored sentries.

A trip to New Providence wouldn’t be complete without a few mementos of your holiday. Schedule a stroll down Bay St for a morning or afternoon of souvenir hunting.

There are several intriguing museums to visit, including the Bahamas Historical Society Museum on the corner of Shirley St and Elizabeth Ave; the Pompey Museum of Slavery & Emancipation, on Bay St next to the Straw Market; Balcony House on Market St and the Nassau Public Library & Museum on Shirley St, which was once the city’s jail.

Paradise Island also offers activities and attractions. In fact, the journey across Nassau Harbour is an activity in itself. For $3 one way ($6 round trip), you can take a ferry between Woodes Rogers Walk and the Paradise Island Ferry terminal.

Hard to miss is the Atlantis resort, which offers enough things to see and do to fill an entire day. Ride the water slides at Aquaventure, shop until you drop at Marina Village or spend an evening testing your luck at the casino.
