New Providence courses on tap
Great holiday golf awaits you

Why is golfing in The Bahamas so satisfying? Start with near-perfect weather just about any day of the year, along with beautiful and challenging courses.

There re two fine courses to play on New Providence; three if you're staying at Atlantis on Paradise Island.

Most popular with locals is the Sheraton Cable Beach Golf Club on West Bay Street. In 2007, Jack Nicklaus began redesigning the course as part of the aha Mar development of Cable Beach. At 6,453 yards, Cable Beach is set up to be enjoyed by players of all skill levels.

"There's no need to hit long," says pro Chris Lewis. "The course is more of a strategic challenge with short fairways. You can have a ood round in about four hours." However, watch out for the 14th hole, Lewis advises. The green is only 135 yards away but it is surrounded by water.

Bermuda grass, known to be slower and more difficult to play from in the rough, has been replaced with Papalum, the newest turfgrass to hit the industry in many years.

Specifically designed for seaside courses, Paspalum improves playability on the green by having virtually no grain. On the fairway, it stands upright, making the golf ball sit up.

By early 208, The Bahamas will feature a newly designed golf course at the site of the former South Ocean Golf Course. The fully redeveloped Blue Shark Golf Course will offer golfers the choice of great play and breathtaking scenery.

Designed by Greg Norman arounda picturesque tropical setting, Blue Shark is a par 71 course that will test topnotch golfers but also offers a great time for the less experienced. At just over 7,000 yards, it features dramatic ocean views as well as many amenities: valet parking, iced owels in the all-new clubhouse, a digital GPS caddie system and professional quality rental clubs.

Over on Paradise Island, Kerzner International offers the Ocean Club Golf Course. This 18-hole, par 72 course designed by Tom Weiskopf. It features six laks, full service practice facility with putting green and driving range, pro shop, clubhouse and more.

Ocean Club is restricted to registered guests of One&Only Ocean Club, Atlantis resort, Harborside Resort, the Marina at Atlantis and Comfort Suites.
