New Year’s Day. Public holiday to be observed Jan 3. Junkanoo Parade takes place on Bay St starting at 1am. Costumed groups take to the streets in a colourful display of dance, music and celebration. Prizes awarded at 8am.
January 12
Opening of the Supreme Court begins with a service at Christ Church Cathedral attended by members of the judiciary dressed in traditional wigs and gowns. Following the service, members proceed from the church to the Supreme Court at Rawson Sq. The Royal Bahamas Police Force Band performs.
January 1
Bulla Regatta, Exuma. C-Class competitors vie for first place at this annual event. Tel 502-0600, Regatta Unit, Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture.
January 16
Marathon Bahamas 2011: Join runners from around the world in a three-segment cross-country full-marathon, half-marathon and relay marathon for schools, churches, businesses or families. Contact Sunshine Insurance offices at 502-6500 for details.

Enjoy an elegant black tie evening of dinner and music with Bizet to Broadway at Old Fort Club, West Bay St. Featuring performances by soprano Gianna Corbisiero, baritone Alexander Dobson, tenor Keith Klassen, mezzo soprano Beverly McArthur and pianist Michael McMahon.
